Each year International Babywearing Week is planned by a dedicated group of volunteer committee members from around the globe. Meet your 2017 Committee Members:
Julia Wronikowska Nunes I have a three and half years old son and a one year and half year old daughter. My babywearing journey started before my older son was born when I started doing research about the best ways to carry my baby boy. I started with a stretchy, moved to woven wraps that are my favorite way to carry but I also love all other types of carriers. Babywearing made the experience of having two kids with only two years of diference in age much lighter and much more fun. Two years ago I became a babywearing educator (ClauWi). Since I thought there was very few information on babywearing in Portuguese language and I always wanted to inform other families on the benefits of babywearing and finding the best ways to carry their babies I also started a blog in Portuguese that I run together with my husband and friends (www.apertadinhos.com) I’m Polish, living in Portugal.
Angelica De la Cruz I started wearing 9 years ago when my son Diego was born with my traditional Mexican Rebozo. Then I really fell in love with it when my 3 year old Ian was born, and together we try to test every carrier that comes our way. I have had the great opportunity to accompany families through the wonderful process of parenting, and I felt responsible for learning more so I could share it with them. Now I am able to share my knowledge as a babywearing and infant massage educator, which has helped me discover the great benefits behind contact, attachment and keeping my sons close to my heart. I truly believe that changing the way the seed grows will change the world itself, and it is super important because it is changing the world that my kids will enjoy. Babywearing has given me the chance to being part of huge projects and meet wonderful people. I run the babywearing group, Fulares y más which has reached great tribes in Cancun Mexico such as “Casa Mammalia” and “CRIARE” and it continues to grow. This is my second year on the IBW committee and I am super grateful for the opportunity.
Gwendolyn Arana I am a mom to a teenager, a preteen, and a toddler and I work full time along with volunteering in my local babywearing group. I discovered babywearing on Facebook when I had my youngest and I quickly joined my local chapter: Babywearing International of South Metro Minneapolis (MN). Soon after I became a volunteer, we merged with Babywearing International of the Twin Cities MN where I am now a Volunteer Babywearing Educator and I serve on our board of directors. This is also my second year on the IBW committee. I am passionate about sharing babywearing with others; being a single teen mom would have been much easier if I had known about babywearing back then. Being able to carry a child hands-free makes such a difference when you need to get things done!
Olivia Resch I have been babywearing for 2 1/2 years and volunteer with BWI of San Diego. The first time I noticed babywearing was in Paris in my early 20s. The African women I saw then had amazing wrapping skills that I envy to this day!
Laura Vitanova I wear my 2.5 year old and 8 month old sons and have been wearing since 2015. I am a VBE of Wichita, KS chapter and am also on the BWI blog team. I never set out to be a babywearer but my firstborn was one of those babies that never wanted to be put down. The day I tentatively put my 3 month old into a baby carrier, my journey through parenthood was forever changed. Now here I am volunteering and dedicating massive amounts of time to make sure everyone knows how awesome it is. This will be my first year serving on the IBW committee and I look forward to celebrating the art of keeping children close through babywearing with you.
Marcie Berzinskas I started babywearing when my son was a few months old and I needed to find a way to comfort him when he wanted to be held all the time. I was introduced to my local babywearing group, VC Babywearers in Ventura, CA and my passion for babywearing quickly grew form there. After my daughter was born my family relocated to Portland, OR where I became a VBE with my local BWI chapter, I currently sit on their board of directors as Vice President, I am also a Trained Babywearing Consultant through CBWS. This is my second year on the IBW committee. I greatly enjoy spreading the love of babywearing to anyone who will listen!
Gabrielė Pravilonienė I became fascinated with babywearing before the birth of my firstborn. Since then, naturally, it became a big part of my life. I love how wearing your baby empowers you, helps you with breastfeeding and fulfilling the need of closeness and still leaves you with free hands for taking care of older kids, yourself and everyday chores. I believe in importance of sharing the benefits of babywearing and supporting each other in this practice, so three years ago I have started an online community in Lithuania hoping to provide a place for this locally.
Leslye Medina I am a mother of two beautiful children. I have been wearing my youngest son for 8 months. I am a native Spanish speaker and Southern California native now living in Minnesota. I love learning new wearing techniques and spreading the knowledge I have obtained. I am a proud member of the BWI of the Twin Cities currently training to become a VBE.
Andrea Adler I am mom of 2. My oldest is almost 4 and my youngest is 16 months. I have been babywearing for nearly 4 years now. I helped affiliate BWI Olympia and served as a VBE with them for 2 years. I recently relocated and am now a VBE with BWI Kansas City. I’ve loved participating in IBW on the local level, and look forward to working on IBW at the national level this year.
Mary Rodio I am an independent babywearing consultant and have been teaching, doing private consults and classes for seven years now. I helped with an independent group, Knoxville Babywearers and then went on to help found a local BWI chapter where i worked in different roles including Chapter President and on several national.committees. I am now a retired Master Babywearing Educator. Currently I am the Director of Education for East TN Valley Babywearers which is approaching our one year anniversary launch during IBW! I also work at our local natural parenting store bohemian baby and do lots of babywearing related help there as well. This is my third year working on the IBW committee and I’m excited to be able to help share the babywearing love on an international level!
Vilija Simaitis, Chair I am a mom to two rambunctious boys ages 4 and 18 months. I began wearing my oldest son shortly after he was born and still remember my first ever BWI meeting and the feeling of accomplishment that came with mastering my ring sling. I joined the BWI National Board of Directors as a mid-term appointee just in time to chair International Babywearing week last year. This is my second year on the IBW committee. I’m currently a VBE for the Portland, OR chapter of BWI and serve to organize our education for our volunteer babywearing educators. Babywearing helped me find my community and I am glad to help everyone celebrate all of the ways babywearing benefits us and builds community.
