What a fantastic week! Thank you to everyone who celebrated with the theme Threaded Together! We have loved seeing everyone’s interpretations and embracing what makes us such a strong community of caregivers. Now that #IBW2017 is winding down we have a rather exciting announcement about #IBW2018. The committee realizes that a lot of efforts goes into the preparation and planning of IBW events and activities. We understand that receiving the theme late in the game can sometimes create difficulties for celebrating organizations. To that end, the 2017 IBW Committee has already determined next year’s theme.
Yes, you read that right.
We have a theme! For next year.
Without further ado, the theme for International Babywearing Week 2018 is:
Babywearing Has…. A Decade of IBW
2018 is a milestone year for International Babywearing Week. For this decennial celebration we wanted a theme that emphasized the growth of the practice, advocacy, education and community of babywearing over the past decade. We also wanted a theme that allowed individuals to celebrate what babywearing personally means to them.
Plans and preparations for the 10th annual IBW are already under way and we will be accepting applications for anyone interested in joining next year’s committee. Committee members do not need to be Babywearing International members, volunteers, or educators. Representation from diverse, international, and domestic babywearing communities is essential to the success and growth of this yearly event. If you are interested in joining the committee for this milestone celebration, please fill out the linked interest form. Next year’s committee will have the pleasure of choosing a graphic designer and logo design to go with the theme.
Furthermore, the IBW committee and BWI Board of Directors will be considering new dates for the celebration. Although IBW has been held during the first full week of October since its inception, we acknowledge that this time of year may pose a conflict for planning due to religious holy days or other days of observation of cultural importance. So we ask you, the global babywearing community, to respond to the linked survey and weigh in on when you think next year’s babywearing week should take place. This form will be open until October 19, 2017. Please keep in mind that we strive to make this an international celebration. We want to include as many countries and cultures as possible and while we may not be able to accommodate everyone, we certainly don’t want conflicts with cultural and religious holidays that may prevent individuals from participating.
The committee also appreciates you taking a moment to leave your feedback about this year’s IBW festivities so that we can continually improve this wonderful celebration.
